One of our all-time favourite projects was our beautiful, coastal, luxury Hamptons unit renovation! Located right on the beachfront at Happy Valley, Caloundra, the unit was in dire need of a complete renovation. The addition of beautiful furniture, homewares and soft furnishings elevated the hard finishes to a level of luxury and refinement. Holiday homes are often the most exciting projects, because the owner is generally a little more relaxed about the process and is more inclined to play with bolder colours and stronger design choices. Here we brought the pastel blues, greens, and floaty whites from the ocean and landscape outside into the apartment to further enhance the magical ‘holiday by the sea’ feel. Softness and a floaty, serene feel was introduced via the billowing sheer curtains, custom fabrics and upholstery and white, white, and more white! White walls (Casper White Quarter), white VJ wall Paneling, white cabinetry, and white window treatments. Layers of oatmeal, timber and neutrals complete the foundation, and small pops of gold in the lighting fixtures and styling accessories add an element of glamour and luxury. This project was a dream come true for everyone involved!

I have had sooo many comments and questions about this project so here is the complete gallery in all her glory. I have listed many suppliers so you can create this coastal luxe look at home. Living

The living room has been designed to invite the coastal colours found outside, inside. This was achieved by the bold, custom-upholstered lounge from Boyd Blue, which injects a large dose of powder blue. The rest of the room is comprised mainly of whites, timber and natural tones. The mirrors reflect the abundance of natural light and the use of symmetry adds a formal element.

The kitchen and dining zone is generally the heart of the home, and this holiday home-away-from-home was no exception! The kitchen Island was topped with 20mm stone and the kitchen was made in two pack cabinetry, painted Casper White Quarter to match the walls. The built in breakfast nook by the dining table allows extra seating and storage, and has become a casual, inviting little nook. The electric fireplace from Dimplex was built into the custom built tower and clad in Easycraft VJ Panels. The VJ Panels add texture and charm, without adding too much to the compact space. The stone, tiles and finishes in this project were mostly from standard ranges, which meant there was room to splurge on some gorgeous furniture, feature tiles and lighting- simple cabinetry pulls from Stefano Orlati were in the standard builders range, for instance. Dried flowers and/ or artificial foliage was required for this holiday home for their low maintenance, the Philodendron leaves from Freedom add life and greenery and a coastal feel. For this Sunshine Coast renovation, we largely tiled only the wet areas to keep tiling costs down. A clever design trick utilized was using white or pale tiles against the white walls, to detract from the line where the tiles meet the plasterboard. We did this in the kitchen with the white handmade tiles, paired with white grout which disappeared against the walls. The Hybrid vinyl flooring from National Tiles was a warm, rich flooring choice with enough variation in the timber colour to work with all the different timber furniture pieces throughout the room.

Coastal Hamptons Style Sunshine Coast

The main bathroom largely kept to a standard range of tiles, with the sandy 300mm x 600mm floor and wet area tile receding nicely against the white base. However the splurge here was the showstopping feature wall with the Paloma aqua tile, laid in Herringbone pattern. The Coastal Hamptons aesthetic was achieved via the colour palette, fixtures and finishes, notably the plumbing fixtures with the classic, gorgeous Hamptons features. The back-to-wall bath from Reece was selected to give the appearance of a freestanding tub as well as free up space in this tight bathroom. The stone, handles and paint colours were repeated from the kitchen.

The girls’ bedroom is a holiday haven of pastels, whites and dreamy clouds. The silvery ‘Cumulus’ wallpaper reflects light and adds whimsy. The custom upholstered bedheads repeat the seafoam colour palette, with the stronger blue in the cushions balancing and providing a visual anchor.

The master bedroom is the ultimate dreamy, coastal bedroom. Keeping to an all-white base with layers of oatmeal is the key to creating a serene, calming bedroom. The only pop of colour is the soft minty seafoam in the cushions and chunky throw, which ties in with the beautiful bathroom feature tile. The vintage washed linen white coverlet is the perfect fabric to sleep under after a long day at the beach.

As with the main bathroom, the ensuite kept to fairly simple range of tile and stone, however the splurge here was the green honed ‘Ming’ picket tile from National Tiles. The vanity wall was the perfect location for the feature tile for two key reasons, the first being that as it is a relatively small wall it’s only a couple of meters of increased cost (these tiles were approximately $300/m!), but also because its the first wall you see from the bedroom it gets maximum visual impact.
